Day 5 – Walla Crag via Ashness Bridge

Posted on September 13, 2019September 13, 2019

With our new found energy for climbing to a view, we returned to Derwentwater to walk Walla Crag. We parked at National Trust’s Great Wood car park and commenced our walk which hugged the shoreline of the lake before veering towards the road and through a fern covered path towards Ashness Bridge. We detoured to Surprise View and felt a real sense of accomplishment after reaching the view on foot having been passed by the Mountain Goat tour bus.

We walked back down to Ashness Bridge and picked up the trail for Walla Crag. Each step gave us a different perspective of our much loved lake and we saw landscape views we had missed from the lakeside. We inadvertently took a different path to the guidebook on the descent which was very rocky and steep but nonetheless showed us more of the beautiful landscape.

The day was finished off with a well earned bottle of Champagne.
